Victorian Electricity Supply Industry’s requirements

— filed under:

The Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI) is introducing changes to the requirements for companies and individuals involved in the civil aspects of underground electricity infrastructure projects.

The industry comprises electricity distributors Jemena, United Energy Distribution (UED), Powercor, CitiPower and SPI Electricity (SPAusNet). The changes affect all civil contractors engaged or tendering for electricity infrastructure civil work.
Under the changes, only pre-qualified and approved civil contractors will be permitted to work on network electricity infrastructure projects.
Civil contractors will also need to:
•    Use an approved safety, quality and environment management system;
•    Provide training for personnel supervising and/or undertaking the work; and
•    Meet audit and inspection requirements for underground electrical infrastructure.
These requirements will take effect from 1 January 2010.
All contractors interested in undertaking civil underground electrical infrastructure works will need to apply for approval to undertake this work before 1 January 2010.
Industry forums will be held at a number of locations across the state during June and July where the changes and approval process will be explained.
