Aboriginal participation in construction guidelines
CCF WA has been invited by LandCorp to help to shape guidelines for aboriginal participation in construction through an industry working group.
Discussions will start with consideration of similar guidelines that have operated in New South Wales since January 2007. They define a policy and specify requirements for agencies and information for tenderers as well as outlining tender requirements. Requirements vary for various sized contracts.
We see this as a great opportunity for our members to partner with LandCorp in the development of these important guidelines. It is absolutely essential that the guidelines agreed by the working group, can be applied by our entire industry and don’t become just another set of words, with great intentions and little or no practical application.
LandCorp executives and Danny Ford from Kambarang Services, will be joined by a range of CCF WA contractor representatives of varying sizes, that undertake LandCorp work including Densford Civil, Downer EDI Works, Ertech, Georgiou and Marsh Civil. In addition some of our CCF members involved principally in landscaping, will also be involved including Earthcare, Landscape Australia and Landscape Developments.
The working group plans to wrap up in late August with guidelines expected to be released in the months following. The guidelines will also be made available to other government agencies for possible implementation.
Skill Centre update
This project is beginning to move quite quickly now. At the time of writing, we are in the process of purchasing a site in Jandakot on which we plan to build a purpose-built skill centre.
The design and construct option was considered only after it was obvious that finding a suitable existing building had proven impossible. We had a team of agents out looking on our behalf over a period of months and we couldn’t find any existing properties which had sufficient parking. Members will receive a detailed update on our plans at each significant stage of development.
CCF WA business sessions
We have introduced a regular series of business seminars, with three successful events now held covering IR, dispute resolution and environment. Further sessions are planned and repeat sessions will be scheduled as required. CCF WA members receive significant discounts on these training seminars.
Metro golf day
The CCF WA Rocla Golf Challenge is on again on Friday 1 October, but this time with a change of venue to the Joondalup Resort.
As always this event will sell out fast, so to avoid disappointment, please call Mike Morris on 9240 5233 if you are interested in sponsorship and/or registration of a playing group.
Earth Awards
The 2010 Earth Awards on Friday 6 August showcased excellent entries in all categories. We thank our sponsors Hitachi, OAMPS Insurance Brokers and Mini Tankers for their support for this prestigious event and wish all of our WA finalists the best of luck in the National Awards in October.
