New Holland adds telehandlers

Its two new LM telehandler models, the LM1440 and LM1740, are powered by fuel-efficient 88kW diesel engines and a full powershift transmission with four forward and three reverse gears provides a maximum speed of 35km/h.

The engines comply with European Tier 2 emissions legislation and add to the existing LM range, the LM430, LM640 and LM630.

Maximum lift capacity across the two new models is 4000kg (1.5t). Reach ranges from 9.3m on the LM1440 to 12.54m on the LM1740 and lift height ranges from 13.55m to 16.6m. A range of steering modes includes two-wheel, four-wheel and crab steer. A tight, 3.89m turning radius makes the range popular on confined sites.

Peter Nash, Nash Plant Hire, Sydney, tested the prototype in Italy before its release in Australia. “I was really impressed to see that some of the suggestions we made have been taken on board. In particular, the cabin controls are really operator friendly and they've included a cabin locker for storing chains and such. We're really impressed with the simplicity of it. For such a complicated machine, they've managed to keep it really simple.”

Construction sites around the world are pretty similar but one of the major differences in Australia is the dust. However the cabin is completely airtight and air-conditioned, he said.

The LM's stabiliser system and hydraulic frame levelling combine with an audible and visual operator warning system, to ensure safe placement of heavy loads at full height or reach.

Attachments include buckets, pallet forks, crane jibs, timber grapples, hydraulic winches and a concrete mixer. A choice of mechanical or optional, hydraulic quick couplers are available.

A strong boom, with generous overlap between telescopic sections, means good load distribution and less stress. All critical stress points are reinforced.
