Vermeer's new HG200, a compact horizontal woodchipper, is designed for use in confined urban areas. In one pass it produces mulch that can be used for general ground cover, landscape mulch, compost, or animal bedding.

Sharing the same platform as the Vermeer BC1000XL brush chipper, it is powered by a 63kW, turbocharged Cummins diesel. The machine has a gross weight of 2.5t allowing it to be towed with a 1t.

A hammermill drum provides optimum cutting performance and simplified maintenance. The drum has the ability to process light contaminants such as nails, small gravel/stone aggregates, bolts, glass fragments, and plastics that are commonly found in light construction and demolition materials, pallets, or wood chips. A lid located directly above the hammermill drum and screens, hinges over the centre to allow the operator full access to these components for daily maintenance and replacement of cutters and screens.

The unit comes standard with the patented SmartFeed control system, and a feed-sensing control system which increases grinding productivity. The SmartFeed computer controller automatically stops or reverses the feed rollers and in feed conveyor according to engine rpm drop.

Another key feature of the HG200 is the patented, clutchless, PTO. This combines the throttle and clutch engagement mechanisms to prevent the drum from being engaged at a high rpm, thus helping to reduce the possibility of expensive drive-train repairs.

The 43cm wide, 1.2m long in-feed conveyor belt, has an optional 61cm extension to handle more material loaded by hand or mechanically. After materials have been processed, a side-discharge conveyor belt allows operators to load materials into dumpsters or 1t trucks, or create windrows. To help eliminate metal contaminants from the end product, the discharge conveyor features an optional magnetic tail pulley, which attracts metal objects and transfers them onto the nail chute, located under the conveyor.
