Operating an excavator subjects the body to substantial physical stresses. Back problems are a frequent result.
To minimise these, automatic adjustment of the seat to the user's weight, is an essential ergonomic feature, says seat maker Grammer. Sensors and electronics in Grammer's new MSG95EL/722, launched at Intermat, Paris in April, take care of setting it automatically to the driver's weight.
This ensures optimum suspension travel and seat positions that optimises safety and ergonomics by raising the upper limit on suspension travel. This does away with having to fiddle with the controls, and drivers can change without having to readjust the seat.
Also, Grammer's active seat climate control system is integrated in the MSG95EL/722. Body heat and perspiration from the user are removed via the cover material and temporarily stored in a layer of activated charcoal underneath.
Beneath the activated charcoal layer is another “level” through which cool, dry air flows, extracting the heat and moisture. The net effect is to keep the seat pleasantly dry and cool. During the colder months of the year, the seat's electrical heating can be additionally switched on as required.
Lasting back relief To reduce whole-body vibrations, Grammer has equipped the MSG95EL/722 with optimized fore/aft and low-frequency suspension systems. The first reduces horizontal vibrations in the direction of travel, while the other lowers the inherent frequency of oscillation. This makes it safer to operate the vehicle, since potentially injurious jolts to the back are minimised. Sitting comfort is tangibly enhanced, because the seat is perceived as calm and soft. Suspension comfort is increased further by the springiness of the control lever mount, which is attached to the seat instead of to the cabin.
