The Norman G. Clark tilt switch can be used either with one of its Flight Systems engine saver s or as a stand alone switch.
It activates once a vehicle has reached a 70tilt to the vertical in any direction. The switch action is irrevocable and connects to an audible alarm - a visual signal can be added - after a variable delay up to 60 seconds. A 24V signal is then directed to the engine shutdown solenoid.
The tilt switch is designed to protect an incapacitated operator by shutting down the engine in the event of a vehicle roll-over or should the vehicle tilt beyond its normal operating attitude.
A steel ball inside the tilt sensor body is a “bridging point”; it allows contact between a copper ring and copper plate which is wired as a triggering switch.
A military style connector (MSC) is used to handle harsh environment operations and a test switch is mounted on the enclosure. The enclosure casing is designed to meet strict automotive requirements for protection against dust, dirt, oil and water.
