Plant tracker slips in under $400

— filed under:

GPS tracking service company GoFinder, has released Australia’s first sub $400 bolt on security tracking device, aimed at construction equipment owners and others.

Measuring 160 x 235 x 26mm, its Smartone unit, little larger than two packs of cards, needs no wiring, antennas or external power. AA lithium batteries provide up to three years of battery life. No installation cost is involved, because it can be bolted on, turned on and logged on to the owner’s pre established account in a matter of minutes.
Operating in conjunction with Globalstar, the world’s largest provider of mobile satellite voice and data services, it determines when an asset is outside its defined location. It sends alerts until the asset has been recovered.
GoFinder’s standard package, allows for the receipt of two positions a day from anywhere in Australia. But Smartone can be custom configured, to manage specific asset needs, and provide emergency alerts via email and SMS. Extra SMS positions are billed monthly at 25c each.
On top of the Smartone tracking device price of $399, owners must pay $99 for connection to the Gofinder Smartsystem and $24.95 per month for a two-year tracking service.
The company also markets software, which can be downloaded on to certain Nokia mobile telephones, that enable the person using the phone to be tracked anywhere in the world.
