First new Toyota Huski debuts in Brisbane

Toyota’s latest skid-steer loader model has made its Australian debut with Australia’s largest owner of Toyota Huski machines. Experienced plant operators from Brisbane-based P & E Francis Plant Hire contributed to the development of the new Huski 5SDK9 model, and commissioned the new machine in late January, creating two important firsts.

It is the Australian debut of the Toyota Huski 5-Series range and the first time Toyota Material Handling has offered a 730kg lift capacity (5SDK9) skid-steer in this country.
The manager of P & E Francis Nev Shelley, said they were using the new machine to push out road base for paving on a major civil project at Fishermans Island, next to the Brisbane River outlet.
Toyota engineers visited us and talked to our operators when they were developing the new machine. We also had the opportunity of testing and evaluating a third generation prototype of the 5SDK8 unit early last year.
We were told that Toyota made a further two prototype generations after the one we tested, he said.
The new Huski 5SDK9 incorporates a number of our suggestions for improvements over the 4SDK8 model, which is the main machine in our fleet of 35 Toyota skid-steers. As well as making the machine more comfortable to operate, two key improvements are a larger-capacity fuel tank and more horsepower, with a larger diesel engine.
The extra power makes the machine quicker for jobs such as bulk pushing, which is what our machine is doing all day at the moment, on areas the size of several football fields, Shelley said.
The new Huski is Toyotas new flagship skid-steer, with a longer wheelbase, larger engine and greater lift capacity than the top-selling 4SDK8.
It has the Toyota 3.5-litre 2Z diesel engine and a lift capacity of 730kg.
P & E Francis Plant Hire has bought 110 Toyota Huski machines in the last 22 years, according to Shelley and Toyota Material Handling (QLD) GM Danny Williams.
We run up to 35 machines on a daily basis, across the range of 4SDK4, 4SDK5, the very popular 4SDK8 and now the new 5SDK9, as part of a comprehensive fleet of civil construction and earthmoving machines, Shelley said.
We have a very positive relationship with the local branch, Toyota Material Handling (QLD), and especially the Williams family, whove always managed the Toyota Huski relationship with our business.
