When jobs call for tight positioning or delicate lifting tasks, the use of a tilt-rotator attachment used with an excavator, can often provide the best solution.

Typical applications include setting of border stones, railway track construction, laying of gravel, sleepers, bars and rails and precision ditch cleaning and trench work.
Semcos Graham Murphy said the German-made ZFE tilt rotator has provided solutions for many contractors in need of this facility.
Tilt rotators are a multifunctional adaptor between the boom and the bucket. Due to its rotation and tilting functions, the tilt rotator provides the highest possible movement of the excavator stick.
An integrated quick-coupler and hydraulic coupling enables different tools to be fitted quickly cutting machines, claws, boring machines, clams for laying of block pavement, paving slabs or even special devices for railway track construction.
An operator can be positioned close to railway lines and remove and discard damaged sleepers. Without repositioning equipment, the operator can pick up a new sleeper then deftly manipulate it back into position under the tracks.
In the next operation a rail tamper attachment can be fitted to the tilt rotator. The operator can use this to tamp the rail ballast or excite it so that it packs up and supports the failed section of railway line, he said.
Semco has ZFE tilt rotators in models to suit a range of equipment from 3 to 24t, typically handling loads of 140kg to 450kg. The equipment is available now and can be purchased and insured through the companys own finance company, Tracfin.
