Reddot award for Doosan excavator concept

The Reddot award was first started in 1955, and is one of the world’s top three industrial design competitions, along with iF and IDEA.
More than 2733 designs were entered from 61 countries this year, and 206 were honored for being creative, innovative, and superior in quality. Out of those awarded designs, only 15, including Doosan’s excavator, were awarded the Best of the Best Award. One of those will be presented with the honorary Luminary Award on November 24 in Singapore.
The concept excavator was well received by the judges for its Eco Transformer concept, which reflected core keywords of ecology, safety, usability, and efficiency. Development of the excavator is proceeding to reality and is targeted to be finished by 2018.
It is designed to function at the highest level at various work sites, to be environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and exhibit superior performance in severe conditions.
In particular, Doosan wants it to be every operator’s dream excavator. To that end it will be equipped with a sliding cabin, an independent and endless navigation facility, an environmentally friendly hybrid power system, and an automatic operating system with artificial intelligence.
