Two new Astec trenchers feature a unique flywheel to minimise trencher stalls when pressure spikes are encountered in tough digging.

The RT 1000 and RT 1200, also incorporate a torsion shaft that absorbs shock loads from the driveline, while planetary gears multiply the hydrostatic motor’s torque, to provide optimal digging power.
“Under severe loads this shaft can provide up to one and a half full turns without breaking, thus maintaining the load upon the cutting teeth and insulating the hydrostatic system from shock loads that can otherwise generate excessive heat in tough conditions,” said Semco’s Graham Murphy
“Load control is another great function that allows the operator to command the machine to automatically adjust the power settings for optimal production through varying ground conditions, and do it faster than the operator can think.”
Four-wheel/three mode steering makes enhances manoeuvrability and the crab steering feature is useful on slopes for maintaining stability. The tool carrier modular chassis provides all the flexibility needed and machines can be configured with a variety of attachments. These include a trencher, vibratory plough, backfill blade/backhoe and rock saw. An optional foldable ROPS frame for the backhoe version is also available.
Hydrostatic ground drive and a separate hydrostatic attachment drive, provide infinite speed variability. The optional backhoe comes with two-lever wobble stick controls. Both machines are equipped with a four post ROPS canopy or optional cabin.
“However, one of these machines most attractive features is their optional three year warranty on workmanship and a five year Cummins engine warranty,” he said.
Power is provided to the RT1000 by a 74kW, tier 3 stage IIIA, 3.3L four cylinder Cummins turbo diesel. The RT 1200 has a similar 90kW engine. Trenching depth of both machines is 2.13m.
