Niche lube product keeps turbo bearings pristine

On initial start-up, the bearings of newly installed turbochargers are vulnerable to irrecoverable damage, because they can be starved of lubrication oil for several minutes.

Until now, motor oil has been used to prime turbocharger bearings, to prevent friction on initial start. While seemingly better than nothing, a static supply of motor oil does not hold up on bearings and moving parts very well.
Now a niche lubrication product, Liqui-Moly Turbo Super-lube, can provide that vital first few minutes of lubrication.
A continual supply of motor oil to the turbo charger is not possible as there is always going to be a delay. If there’s not a problem, it can still take as long as 30+ seconds for oil to reach turbocharger bearings, and minutes if there is. As a result mating surfaces run dry, damaging the turbocharger, or at least causing wear.
Liqui-Moly Turbo can be easily squeezed into the bearing cartridge during a turbocharger install. It would be useful too, when a machine is restarted, after lying idle for some time. It is specifically formulated to put a high load bearing protective film over moving parts to protect and reduce friction until a consistent oil supply is possible.
GCG Turbos MD Brett Lloyd said, “This product would be considered a true safeguard against damage; it is one of the best new products I have experienced in over 20 years of working in the industry and a must when doing a turbocharger installation.”
The product is an anti-wear pre-lubricant essential for any turbo installation. Available in a 20g single use squeeze pack, it is suitable for new, service exchange or second hand turbo chargers in any frame size, for automotive, marine, and heavy commercial industries.
Price is $24.95 and it is available from GCG Turbos on 1300 turbos or www.gcg.com.au. More information: www.liqui-moly.com.au
