The 10,000th excavator to be made in China – an EC210BLC – was on display as the star attraction of a special event to mark the occasion. A select group of media and members of Volvo Construction Equipment gathered for an official ceremony and press conference at its Shanghai facility. Volvo president and chief executive Olof Persson was present and conducted a question and answer session with the media about the company’s strategic focus and plans for growth in the region.
Volvo started its hydraulic excavator manufacturing facility in Shanghai in April 2003. So far, it has invested US$32m into the operation and employs around 300 people at its Shanghai facility.
