A tight for the Liebherr crane in busy Bangkok
Thai contractor Ngamwongwan Karnchang Co Ltd is using a newly purchased Liebherr 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronic luffing jib crane, supplied by Liebherr's distributor in Thailand, STIT Company Ltd, a part of the Sino-Thai Group.
Mr Sompoch Rattana Areeyagon, deputy managing director of STIT, says that the 125 HC-L 6/12 was selected because the 14-storey building has a small footprint and the crane jib has to stay within the confines of the site.
"The site is about 0.5 hectare and is located just inside the main gate of the campus," he says. "In front of the project is the main access road to the university buildings, used by students and support services, and behind are other university buildings.
"The jib has to stay within the site perimeter, and Ngamwongwan purchased the Liebherr crane specifically for this project," said Areeyagon.
The crane, which is the main means of lifting materials at the site, has a maximum lift capacity of 12t and can slew through 360 degrees under load. Its 50m jib can raise and lower through angles of between 15 and 70 degrees, which allows it to be used on small areas of land. Mr Sompoch says the crane is a stationary unit, fitted with a 256 HC mast and with a tower height of 41.7m.
KMUTT is a leading technology academy in Thailand, focusing on teaching and research in engineering and technology, and is located on the Thonburi side of the river. There are three campuses and one city-centre institute, with the new building being erected at the main administrative campus of Bangmod, which is home to about 17,000 students and 2,000 academic staff members.
