Gough and Gilmour takes a new tack
By the time the next issue of this magazine is published, Gough & Gilmour will have transitioned to a new business, as an independent supplier of Caterpillar machines along with parts, service and support, and an expanded rental fleet.
This will not represent a major change from its current role, of providing NSW and ACT customers with Caterpillar products, across its network of 20 branches. “It will nevertheless be a significant benchmark in this industry, as we reposition ourselves to ensure that we help our customers bring down the cost of receiving the value inherent in Caterpillar machines,” marketing director Tony Gilmour said.
After 9 th April this year, Gough & Gilmour will start offering a new line of quality parts for Caterpillar machine owners, along with a full range of very low hour Caterpillar equipment carrying warranties normally only associated with new equipment. “We will continue with our philosophy of putting our people as close to our customers as possible. So all branches will continue to provide a permanent base for machine sales, parts and service operations. They will also be the base for our current, large and expanding rental fleet,” he said.
The company will continue to fully staff those branches with competent service personnel, supported by the necessary tooling and equipment. It expects to start its 2004 intake of apprentices shortly. Gough & Gilmour has 152 apprentices currently making it one of the largest employers of apprentices in this trade in Australia.
It is now more than four years since the beginning of the dispute which has resulted in Gough & Gilmour moving on with this new business. “We appreciate that the distraction suffered by us as we undertook successful litigation may have caused our customers some inconvenience. Can we take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and loyalty during that time in particular, and in fact over the entire period, since we commenced in 1989,” Tony said.
Gough and Gilmour look forward to sharing the future with existing and new customers. “You have our undertaking that we will continue to source products and develop processes that will help drive down the cost of ownership and operation of Caterpillar products,” he said.
