Case drops Earth Awards sponsorship

The current 13 th annual Case Earth Awards for environmental excellence in the civil construction industry will be the last to be sponsored by Case Construction Equipment.

Run by the Civil Contractors Federation they were developed to recognise and reward significant and innovative environmental reform.

Case marketing manager Wayne Munce said the awards had achieved company aims. “At the time they were established, civil contractors were regarded, perhaps unfairly, as being pretty environmentally unaware. The awards helped highlight the many innovative environmental solutions contractors were actually implementing and we're very proud of that.

“We've been pleased to give some well-deserved recognition to hundreds of projects, some world firsts that have demonstrated the construction industry's commitment to the environment.”

Munce said the awards didn't just recognise environmental excellence, they inspired it. “Over the years we've seen contractors place a higher value on environmental management. We've reached a point where projects just don't happen without proper environmental assessment and monitoring. Programs like ours have played an important role in raising the bar.”

2006 winners from each state have now been announced. All are in contention for the national honours, to be announced on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the CCF National Conference gala dinner in Hobart.

National president of the CCF Robert Dahan said, “The past 14 years has been a period of tremendous growth in the awareness of the environment by all industries, but particularly by civil contractors, infrastructure clients, industry suppliers, and project managers.

He said the CCF remains committed to recognising excellence in civil construction, particularly in environmental management and innovation. It will announce a new partner for the awards in Hobart.

Meanwhile, Case is looking at emerging issues in civil construction and considering other sponsorship opportunities, both with the CCF and other parties.
