In the TV show, a new 2009 model Nissan GTR nicknamed Godzilla, was given a test drive on the new upgrade. The Top Gear presenters and professional drivers remarking on the smoothness of the new concrete pavement.
The flat concrete is Gods gift to race cars. Forget Hoover dam, this is now one of the new engineering wonders of the world, said Top Gear producer Lou Dimovitch. Top Gear thanks Abigroup for the use of the new Pacific highway section of road. The film site and location are the best the series has experienced, he said.
At the official opening, RTA major infrastructure director Brian Watters paid tribute to Abigroup for the successful project, making special mention of the high standards achieved in safety, quality of work, environmental performance and delivery.
The dual carriageway highway is part of the overall upgrade of the existing Pacific Highway and comprises five twin bridges, two twin arches and other structures.
The new sections will carry a significant amount of inter-regional traffic in an effort to reduce freight transport costs, average travel times and accidents.
