Gehl sets long term growth path in Australia

In 1859 an agricultural implement company, started in a small blacksmith shop, in West Bend, Wisconsin, USA.

From these humble beginnings, the Gehl Company has grown to be a major force in the compact equipment industry worldwide, with one of the worlds largest range of skid steers.
Today in Australia, the next chapter in the companys 150 year history, is being written with the appointment of Manitou Australia as the national importer of Gehl products. Manitou Australia is the Australian subsidiary of Manitou BF, Ancenis, France, the worlds leading manufacturer of rough terrain material handling equipment. Manitou BF is also the parent of Gehl following it acquisition by Manitou BF, last October.
Manitou Australia GM Stuart Walker said, On the surface, the appointment of Manitou Australia, is a logical development for Gehl. However since its acquisition, Manitou Australia has been in discussions with Gehl, to ensure that each party has the same long term growth plans. More importantly, we needed to ensure that both companies had a common philosophy and goals, in customer support.
Manitou Australia has a strong independent dealer network across metropolitan and regional Australia and our goal is to offer exceptional customer service. Our independent network is the envy of our industry; with partnerships dating over 25 years we have a knowledge base second to none on our field.
Walker also said, From the first day I joined Manitou, it was clear its philosophy is to work with a strong, dedicated dealer network, to ensure customers expectations are met on a local basis. Our business is all about people and our number one asset is our customers.
It was also clear to me that Gehl holds the same values. So the appointment of Manitou Australia as Gehls representative in Australia, is much more than a marriage of convenience: it is a true partnership. Who would have thought the French and the Americans would finally agree on something!
Gehl has been producing skid steers since 1973 and today its range boasts rated capacities up to 1747kg with the 76kW model 7810E, the worlds largest skid steer. Gehls latest offering is the 1640E with a width of 900mm and a capacity of 385kg.
