Rental breakdown has silver lining for Carnegie Hire

IRONICALLY, a recent rental product breakdown has turned out to be a positive for Victorian equipment hire business, Carnegie Hire.

One of the longest operating equipment hire businesses in Melbourne, Carnegie Hire, located at 1076 Dandenong Road, Carnegie, offers a range of construction, building and contractor products for the home DIY person through to home builders.
The company’s Nick Chadd said a breakdown with its air compressor in recent months turned the focus to its newly acquired JCB Beaver powerpack with a 25kg breaker.
“People have been using the JCB powerpack and have loved it,’’ Nick said. “We had one customer who used to use the compressor twice a week, and he was hesitant about the powerpack, but he loves it too. We’ve had it going out a couple of times a week and there has not been one problem.’’
Nick said the portability of the JCB unit was a major bonus. “We’ve previously had compressors and old hoses – and storing them and putting them in people’s cars is a pain. You can have about six powerpacks in the space of one compressor.’’
“The powerpack sits in a small frame with wheels at the rear, and a handle lifts up so you can pull it behind you easily; there is no need to bend.’’ Nick said the breaker was easy to use and its low vibration from JCB’s Vibro Damped handles was a key feature.
Carnegie Hire has the 25kg JCB breaker with the Beaver and, as well as its detachable 7m length of 13mm bore heavy-duty siamesed hose, with flat faced dripless couplings, the company also took-up the option for an extra length of hose from JCB.
He was impressed with the service and support behind the product. “When we ordered the second hose, it had to come from England and it got here extremely fast. It was great turnaround.’’
Nick said the powerpack and breaker had performed brilliantly and the company was considering buying another one.
