Construction of The Parks track at Morphettville follows the recent closure of Cheltenham Park and Victoria Park racecourses in Adelaide. The two former racetracks are in the process of redevelopment.
Concept plans were released in August this year for a new $500m inner-city suburb called St Clair to be built on the 64ha Cheltenham Park site.
Victoria Park, a 72ha site on the eastern edge of the Adelaide CBD, is being converted to an urban park at a reported cost of $8m. The heritage grandstand will be refurbished as part of this redevelopment.
