Today, April represents just the start of the busy tourist season that keeps the French capital and the country’s largest city, humming throughout the summer and into autumn. But the beginning of the tourism season this past April, didn’t stop local contractor Linea BTP from finding a way to reconstruct a busy intersection in the heart of Paris, just several hundred metres from the Eiffel Tower.
Completing any road construction during the busy tourist season requires critical timing, and the correct machines to handle the project efficiently and within the required timeframe. As a result, Linea BTP decided to buy four new Cat® road construction machines that fitted the task at hand.
The order was placed just three weeks earlier and was delivered on site the evening of the project’s start. They included a Bitelli BB621C track-type paver finisher, a Cat CB434D asphalt compactor, a Cat CB24 vibratory utility compactor and a Cat 906 compact wheel loader.
According to French dealer Bergerat Monnoyeur, the machines were specifically suited for the project’s extremely tight working conditions. Linea BTP CEO Michel Cottot agrees. “We acquired these machines because 80% of our work is in urban areas where space is at a premium.”
To avoid traffic interruptions, the entire project was completed over three nights. It began with the removal of more than 240t of material from two Cat cold planers, a Bitelli SF200 and a SF60 and ended with paving and compaction using Linea BTP’s newest Cat machines.
The challenging economic environment has not stopped Linea BTP from looking toward the turnaround. “We…believe that one should prepare for the future by investing in reliable, modern and well-adapted equipment, such as the Cat machines just acquired for this type of road resurfacing work,” Cottot said.
