Although it is now almost a decade since Seiffert worked in local government, in his current position, he has taken an active role in building a collaborative approach between local government, the Institute and the CCF, aimed at enhancing tendering and contract management practices.
The national award is named after an icon of local government engineering Keith Wood, AM. Wood the medal to Seiffert during the opening session of the national conference in Melbourne in early September.
In 1992, the Victorian Municipal Engineering Foundation awarded Seiffert the Cedric Tuxen Medal for excellence in local government engineering and for his outstanding contribution to local government.
In 2000, he received an Order of Australia Medal for services to local government, the community and sport. In 2003, he was awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal.
In accepting the Keith H Wood medal, Seiffert challenged engineers in both public and private sectors, to take advantage of the enormous opportunities available to them under the backdrop of an unprecedented emphasis by governments on infrastructure development.
Seiffert will be retiring as the branch CEO on January 31 2010 and steps are being taken by the branch board to find a successor.
