The Immersive Technologies simulator is owned by Mining Sims Australia, whose principals purchased it to train people who want to enter the mining industry, as well as to help mining companies benchmark and retain employees.
More than 60 invited guests attended the official launch, which was hosted by the CCF SA branch and performed by local MP Mitch Williams.
The $1m advanced simulator mimics the visual, auditory and sensory experience of driving a 280t Cat 793D mining dump truck.
Mining Sims Australia co-directors Alan Read and Les Hughes, who between them have more than 50 years’ experience as drivers and trainers in the mining industry, attended the launch.
The company offers a five-day course on the simulator. “This includes driver training, awareness and standard mining procedures, as well as potential issues that could arise,” says Read. “At the end of the course, successful drivers will receive a certificate of attainment and a printed record of their achievement.”
Civil Train SA business manager training, Andrew Haste, says Civil Train is proud to be partnered with such an innovative program and will be evaluating the training outcomes with a view to its suitability across other training areas.
