LPG shots boost turbo diesel torque by 20%

Melbourne based eCo-shot Australia, was recently accredited to modify turbo diesel engines, to use LPG.

Using mechanical, certified kits, similar to those used as LPG conversion kits in cars, the firm has until now been largely concentrating on trucks. But it has had queries from Western Australia about modifying large wheel loaders.
eCo-shot’s Les Ables said that by using LPG in a turbo diesel, engines will burn more efficiently, leaving cleaner emissions too. He said combustion improved from 75 to 95% and torque by 20% with metered shots of LPG.
The system uses the boost pressure of the turbo to accurately meter LPG flow but requires no fuel or management system alterations.
The conversion kits are eligible for the federal government rebate for LPG conversions, and cost about $7000 for a moderately sized turbo diesel, fitted to say a 20t excavator.
Meanwhile Melbourne University in a $3m and three year Hydrogen Car Engine project, has launched a standard Ford car engine, running well on hydrogen.
The partially Victorian Government funded project is at the halfway mark. Over the next 18 months it will aim to make the engine the most efficient hydrogen fuelled internal combustion engine yet.
