Australia gets first look at Hyundai’s backhoe
|
Australian backhoe buyers became the first in the world to experience Hyundai’s expansion into this market segment, when the company unveiled its HB100 backhoe to its dealers, at the company’s national conference in Perth in mid March. |

The remainder of the first shipment will be released on the Eastern Seaboard during April and May to join excavators, skidsteers and wheel loaders in the company’s equipment line up.
Due to the demanding Australian environment, HCEA has worked closely with the factory in Korea to develop the new backhoe. So the units arriving here have been specifically designed to meet Australian conditions. Of course their design has been thoroughly researched and tested to comply with international standards too.
With a dig depth of 5.665m, the HB100 falls about one third of the way into the 22 model strong, 5.5 to 6m dig depth category in this magazine’s Plant Specs. However it can have far and away the biggest bucket – the biggest option is 2.36m wide - available for any Australian backhoe. The next biggest elsewhere are 1.8m wide.
A 70kW, turbocharged and charge air cooled Tier III F4GE9484F*J Iveco diesel, drives a four speed powershift transmission, with a top speed of 37.5km/h.
Again the HB100 is almost unique among backhoes on the Australian market in that it uses a tandem gear hydraulic pump, with a maximum oil output of 160l/m at 250bar. The only others to use such pumps here are two Hidromek units.
To allow operators to perform at their best, the cab offers a tilting steering column, a one piece sliding window and a centralised instrument panel.
