Road extension to improve Port Botany access

Work has begun on a road project to improve heavy vehicle access to freight precincts around Port Botany and Sydney Airport.

Sydney Ports Corporation, ING Real Estate and Sydney Airport, are collaborating on the project to extend the western end of Hale Street so that it connects to Foreshore Road.
Currently the only access for carriers to Port Air Industrial Estate, one of South Sydney’s largest industrial precincts, is through Hale Street via Botany Road.
It is estimated that up to 1100 truck movements daily will be removed from Botany Road when the road extension is completed.
Sydney Ports chief executive Grant Gilfillan said the development was part of a push to improve efficiency and productivity at the port.
“With container trade hitting record levels at Port Botany, better access for vehicles will assist carriers with shorter transit periods and generally improve the handling of imports and exports.”
The road extension is due to be finished in July.
