Severe skills shortages to be expected across all engineering professions
|
Recruitment activity within engineering will continue to increase across the board in quarter three of 2011, according to the latest quarterly Market Update released today by recruitment consultancy Robert Walters. |
|
The update revealed that hiring levels will increase as owner/operators become busier and more resources projects move into the construction phase. Mining and oil and gas owners, EPCM companies and construction firms servicing the resources sector are expected to see the highest levels of hiring activity.
In addition, salaries will continue to increase across the board due to high levels of demand, with professionals working in construction on resources projects expected to receive the biggest increases.
“We’re expecting to see severe skills shortages across all areas, as there will not be enough available professionals in the market to deliver all the projects that are planned. In this market, candidates will receive multiple offers and employers will be forced to offer higher salaries and bonuses to attract top talent. Employers will also need to speed up their recruitment processes and be more open to sourcing professionals from overseas,” said Robert Walters’ Manager of Mining & Engineering Recruitment, Adam Harris.
