The John Connell Gold Medal - one of engineering's highest accolades
The John Connell Gold Medal is awarded to an eminent structural engineer who has made a significant contribution to the standing and prestige of the structural engineering profession.
Over her 32-year career with CCAA, Samia has been responsible for developing and disseminating knowledge on the performance and application of cement, concrete and aggregates to engineering, architectural and construction professionals and government agencies.
She has been instrumental in the development and maintenance of over 140 CCAA technical publications, including the extensively referenced Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook, the Guide to Concrete in Housing and the Guide to Concrete Construction. She has also contributed to numerous Australian standards and codes.
In reality, there would be few concrete structures built in Australia that haven’t benefited in some way from Samia’s vast knowledge. Samia has built a well deserved reputation for excellence in concrete technology which reflects very positively on CCAA and our industry and we’re proud and excited that she’s been recognised in this way.
