Welcome upgrades to Hobart Airport
|
Yesterday’s announcement by Hobart International Airport of a $20 million upgrade to its runway is welcome news for tourism and the local economy. |
|
The Runway Overlay project involves a rejuvenation of the runway surface as well as significant upgrades to the lighting system, details were released yesterday about another major upgrade which will see a new retail outlet centre built near the airport.
The Hobart Capital + Home project will provide 300 jobs during construction as well as 700 new retail jobs when the precinct is fully open.
By 2030, there will be more than twice the current number of passengers travelling through our capital city airports - increasing from around 100 million passengers to almost 235 million, passengers at Hobart International Airport are also expected to increase from 1.9 million each year to 2.8 million by 2020 which shows the need for effective planning and management of our airports.
